About us.
Greens of Gloucestershire was formed by Kevin Green early in 2006 in response to a request by a friend to decorate a shop out with all 32 national flags from the teams competing in that summers FIFA World Cup. He quickly found that while you could buy the St Georges Cross at virtually every other shop on the High Street it was a very different story when it came to the other 31 nations.
With some 25 plus years in customer service and skills in web design it was quickly apparent that the best way of providing this kind of niche market was via the Internet. He felt that while the High Street rents in the UK were at the extortionate levels they were at in 2006 it wasn’t the right direction for a fledgling business, let alone a very specialist field such as flags.
Having searched the UK, USA, and Far East for suppliers and having created a basic but functional website the business started to produce orders and positive feedback from a number of clients. The business at this time was part-time with orders being processed after a full days work at the office. The rewards were plain to see, the business growth exceeded initial expectations and in December 2007 Kevin resigned from his ‘day job’ in order to focus on the growing business while being able to spend more time with his family.
With more time available to promote and market the business a new website was launched and the range expanded to include table flags, embroidered patches and a range of high quality sewn flags. The new products quickly became established and the business continues to grow.
Kevin has always insisted that the business must provide the best possible service, keep overheads low, and keep prices competitive. When asked why it was important to keep the overheads low, Kevin responded. “Ultimately either the customer pays the overheads or the business fails. With rising costs, and less disposable income, customers will be expecting more, at a time when most businesses are in a position to offer less. By keeping our overheads low we are in the position to be able to offer our customers that little bit extra, and still retain a viable business for the foreseeable future.”
As a family run business Kevin is very aware that ‘family’ is the operative word and sometimes you may find the answer phone is switched on. Don’t be alarmed it may just be that the family is coming 1st. Leave your message or e-mail and you will be assured of a prompt reply.
